Opportunity House offers year-round social,
recreational and participatory sports
programs through Recreation and Special Olympics.
Participation in recreation
and Special Olympics enhances development of interpersonal skills, builds
friendships, maintains physical fitness and mental
acuity, and teaches
participants how to use leisure time constructively.
The Recreation program offers a variety of
supervised activities at a reasonable
cost.Transportation to and from most activities is
provided. Some of the offerings
in the past year have been;
Special Olympics provides sports training and
athletic competition in individual
and team sports. Athletes with disabilities may choose to participate in
Basketball, Softball, Swimming, Volleyball, Tennis, Golf, and more. A fee is
charged for each sport to offset the costs of the
program.
Special Olympics and many Recreational activities
are offered in conjunction
with Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association. A
bi-monthly newsletter with
a schedule of activities is distributed to persons
served, their families and other
interested parties.
