The following is a description of services available at Opportunity House.  If you would like more information on any service offered please email our staff at  OHstaff@ohinc.org

Job Placement

We help persons with disabilities to get and keep community jobs.  We teach job-finding and interviewing skills, determine the person's work skills, and match a community job to those skills.  We also assist with the actual job placement and help to arrange transportation.

Supported Employment

This is a "place and train" model for helping persons with disabilities to work on community jobs.  After a job is found, our Job Coaches train the worker at the job site.  We work with the person with a disability and the employer to assure the right supports are in place to help the worker be successful on the job.

Work Services

Work opportunities and job training are another vocational option offered in our facility to persons who are currently looking for a job in the community, who want a 2nd job in addition to their part-time community job, or those who aren't interested or have had difficulty maintaining a community job.  Clients are taught work skills, productivity, work habits and social skills.  Clients work on various subcontract jobs from local industries which offer many types of work including packaging and assembly.  Workers are paid wages based on their productivity.

Developmental Training

Clients with severe and multiple disabilities are provided training in functional skills, work, and volunteer experiences.  Training is provided in a variety of areas to help this group become more independent at home, in the community, and in our facilities.  Training areas include self-care, health care and physical fitness, basic work skills, social skills and acceptable behavior, communication skills, safety awareness, leisure skills, mobility, and community participation.

Recreation

Social and recreational activities are offered to clients enrolled in any of our programs.  Goals are to provide clients with a variety of recreational activities to help them develop skills to use their leisure time more enjoyably and independently. Activities include: bowling, movies, dances, swimming, concerts, Special Olympics softball, basketball, and bowling teams, spectator sports events, special trips and tours.

Residential

We help persons with developmental disabilities to find and live in their own apartments or provide group homes and other living arrangements for persons who need supervision around the clock. We offer training to all residential clients which includes cooking, shopping, doing laundry, clothing care, money management, and other individual specific skills training.
