The Developmental Training program is designed to assist people with more
severe or multiple disabilities in developing and enhancing adaptive living
skill and skills needed for economic self-sufficiency.
Operating from the totally
accessible facility at 357 N. California Street in
Sycamore, program participants
receive habilitative skill building in the following
areas;

Self-care (grooming, toileting,
dressing)

Physical fitness
-
Social/interpersonal skills
-
Communication
-
Mobility
-
Community integration
Individuals may spend part of their day volunteering
in the community or doing
paid work at OH Industries. Those with severe
disabilities receive needed
personal care from caring, well-trained staff.
Sharing space with Opportunity House in the facility
is District 427’s “Life
School” the District’s Special Education Transition
Program for students ages
18 – 21. The Life School, a collaborative effort between
Opportunity House
and District 427, gives students and their families a preview of what adult
services are, what services are available, and provides information and
referral to appropriate services post high school.
