Dignity In Pay; Dignity In Work

A Bold Transition for a More Inclusive Future

For over 60 years, Opportunity House has empowered individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to live, work, and thrive in our community. Today, we are stepping into one of the most important transitions in our history.

The Dignity in Pay Act is ending subminimum wage work in Illinois, and with this change comes an opportunity to reimagine how adults with IDD learn, grow, work, and participate in community life.

Opportunity House is leading the way with Workforce Development, which includes:

  • Community-Based Small (3 individual) Group Employment
  • STEAM Learning Lab powered by Project Lead The Way (first in Illinois)
  • In-House Certification & Skills Development
  • Volunteer Pathways & Job Shadowing
  • Embedded DSP Coaching & Family Support
