Community Day Services

The Community Day Services program focuses on acquiring, enhancing, and maintaining personal, social, educational and vocational skills development. Individualized services are designed to assist individuals in acquiring, enhancing or maintaining the skills needed for independence in daily living.

Community Day Services provide a wide range of education and training opportunities including:

• Socialization
• Self-care
• Activities of daily living
• Communication
• Community integration
• Prevocational skills
• Work opportunities
• Physical fitness and nutrition
  
  

Community Day Services also offers an opportunity for individuals, interested and capable, to develop and hone work skills while earning a wage. OH Industries, our packaging and assembly operation, provides supervision and on-the-job training to help individuals increase skills needed for economic self-sufficiency.  Individualized service plans focus on areas such as;

• Work expectations and behavior
• Workplace safety
• Relationships to co-workers and supervisors
• Work habits
• Task completion
• Production
  
  

OH Industries also offers flexible schedules to individuals with part-time supported community employment who want to earn additional wages or fill out their workweek. Whether it’s long-term employment or a part-time job to supplement income, OH Industries offers those with limited work skills the opportunity to earn a living and be self-sufficient.

When not engaged in work, individuals employed at OH Industries are provided with a variety of activities designed to increase independent living, personal, social and employment skills. The “Learning for Life” program, in collaboration with Kishwaukee College, is also offered to those wishing to pursue continuing adult education.

Some disability advocacy groups want to eliminate commensurate wages and sheltered employment for people with disabilities. Though sheltered employment is not the best option for many people, for some people it is the only option they have to earn a wage, and take pride in having a job and being productive.
